Analyze - to break apart
Annotate - to make reading available by making connections in written or highlighted form
Brainstorm - a thinking process, represented by a Circle Map, to generate as many ideas as possible
Categorize - a thinking process, represented by a Tree Map, to put items or information into groups.
Sensory Details - specific descriptions gained by using any of the five senses - smell, sight, sound, taste, touch
Pattern - repeats; creates meaning
Structure - the "skeleton"; creates movement
Articulate - to put into words
Simple Sentence - an independent clause
Compound Sentence - 2 independent clauses joined by a conjuction
Complex Sentence - dependent clause + independent clause
Mode - the overall purpose of a piece of writing
Narrative Mode - writing in order to tell a story
Expository Mode - writing in order to explain or provide information
Argumentative Mode - writing to influence, to make a point
